“Independence is being happy” –Susan B. Anthony. This was definitely the case at Silver Oaks Bangalore on August 15, when the entire school got together to celebrate Independence Day.
The celebration started in the morning, with the flag hoisting, national anthem, and national song. The theme for the event was the “Power of Inspiring Words,” and this was showcased through the central idea, SALT. This was the theme of the first act, Salt and the Great Soul.
There were various plays after that, too, with the topics ranging from Swachch Bharath and Beti Bachao, Beti Pardao to 2020 India and Make in India. There were acts by all of the grades, and everybody did their part.
The little acorns of Silver Oaks had acts on saving trees and protecting wildlife, while the older students showcased other aspects of India’s society, like the various schemes by the government and how self-respect and dignity are the rights of everyone .
The chief guest was Dr. Remilla Murthy, a Deputy Project Director from ISRO’s satellite center in Bangalore. He spoke on how it was the small actions that we all do as a society that make all the difference in the lives of others and the development of the country. Throughout the entire event, the spirit of patriotism was high, and the event was proof of the commitment of all of the students and staff at the school to the event.
The Students of the Publication team also got a life time opportunity to Interview Mr. Murthy. It was an insightful and thought provoking interaction, where students learned about ISRO, Mr. Murthy's work and what is takes to be a scientist in todays world.
